The Hammond Award was established in 2014 by the MMARC Board of Directors to honor individuals for promoting Amateur Radio in the tradition of Tom Hammond NØSS (SK).

Tom Hammond, NØSS (SK), was an energetic and effective evangelist for amateur radio, electronic technology, and public service throughout his life. Tom was born in 1944 and died in 2011 after a long struggle with cancer. He was known throughout the world for his outstanding operating skill, particularly CW, and his fierce pursuit of excellence. During Tom’s long years of membership, he held many positions of authority and consistently supported the goals of the club with his tireless behind-the-scenes encouragement and direct participation.

In an effort to memorialize Tom Hammond and his many contributions, the club established “The Hammond Award” to honor someone who demonstrates the same fine values and characteristics that Tom possessed.
