VE Liaison’s Report: Mike Smith - AD0YM
There has been a request for a test session since our January meeting. Candidate David
McCurley successfully completed his Technician exam on Saturday, 4 February. Paperwork was
filed electronically and by mail on the same day. His call sign is KF0LLO.
Mike followed up on the ARRL VEC's recently announced availability of Exam Tools which
provides some additional testing format options; specifically, online and tablet based testing for
potential license applicants. He has since received the necessary information to use Exam Tools.
Additional training of current and future volunteer examiners will be required to use this option.
In the short run, he does not see much of an advantage for us to use this option for our test
sessions, but circumstances may change in the future to cause him to change my mind. (Paper is
still simple and straightforward for our small group test sessions.)
The need to have a cadre of volunteer examiners remains. The lack of test sessions in recent
months could change at a moment's notice. New and refresher volunteer examiner materials can
be found at: Become an ARRL VE (http://www.arrl.org/become-an-arrl-ve)
2 Meter Net Report:
Steve Hick, WW0G, announced he will be operating as V3T in Belieze during the ARRL
International CW DX Contest (February 18-19, 2023) and encouraged everyone to contact him.
