Maybe youâve been curious about amateur radio but arenât quite sure where to start. Or maybe you already have a spark of interest, but youâre wondering if joining a club is really the right move for you.
The truth is, amateur radio is a massive, ever-evolving world. It can feel overwhelming from the outside, and absolutely no one is expected to be an expert in all of it. Thatâs exactly why our club exists: to help you discover what interests you in the hobby, and to provide the community and support to make it fun.

A World of Ways to Communicate
Whether you want to talk to someone down the street or across the globe, we have members doing it all.
- Global Reach: Connect with people all over the world using HF bands and modest home setups.
- Local Reliability: Tap into our wide-coverage VHF/UHF linked repeater system, designed to serve Cole and Osage counties (but reaching much further!).
- Digital Frontiers: Explore the fast-paced, ever-changing world of amateur digital communications.
Hands-On Learning & Mentorship
You don't need to have everything figured out to get involved. Our members represent a massive knowledge base and are eager to share it.
- Tech Builders: Join our technical group, which meets weekly (in-person and virtually) to build equipment, experiment, and troubleshoot.
- Outdoor Adventure: Take radio into the wild with "Parks on the Air" (POTA), combining technical skills with the great outdoors.
- Morse Code Mastery: We boast a unique number of members highly proficient in Morse Code, and we even offer weekly in-person training sessions to keep this classic skill alive and thriving.
Purpose and Public Service
While amateur radio is a fantastic hobby, it also serves a vital purpose. Our clubâs primary mission is supporting local public safety agencies and leading local SKYWARN activities. By joining, you are gaining a hobby and a way to give back to your community when it matters most.
Come See For Yourself
You don't need a license or an application to check us outâjust an open mind. We meet on the second Thursday of each month at the Cole County Sheriffâs office. Guests are always welcome.
Come hang out, meet the group, and ask questions. There is absolutely no pressure to join right away; once youâve met us and seen what weâre about, you can decide if it's the right fit for you.
